Couple's vision of beach paradise wins again with national luxury award

A Sydney couple's vision of Australia's ultimate beach house has won another luxury accommodation award, with Azure on the NSW mid North Coast collecting a National People's Choice award in the third TakeABreak Annual Awards.

The win in the Luxury Holiday Accommodation Award category recognises properties that have provided outstanding product and exceptional service in their individual categories.

Winners are selected from over 13,000 properties listed on the TakeABreak.com.au site, with shortlisted candidates having guest ratings of 4/5 or better.

Azure - a property designed and furnished by Cremorne Point couple John and Theresa Howarth - has in three years since its completion:

  • Won a Master Builders Association of NSW Award for Building Excellence
  • Been nominated by Nine MSN Travel Australia as one of the Top 10 beach houses in NSW
  • Featured in Bride to Be magazine as one of the best destinations for honeymooners and bridal parties
  • Won the 2009 "Best Luxury Holiday Accommodation in NSW Award" in the TakeABreak Awards
  • Now won the national TakeABreak People's Choice award

Three hours drive north of Sydney, this ultimate beach home unfolds its sleek architecture and elegant interior design onto an absolute beach frontage at Boomerang Beach, a kilometre stretch of dazzling white sand enfolded by towering headlands framing rolling surf.

Comprising two three-bedroom beach houses combining intimacy and privacy, Azure epitomizes sophisticated 21st Century luxury living and relaxation, set in a strikingly beautiful beachfront that time forgot.

"Everything we put into Azure is designed to optimise the magnificent site, to be the most thoughtful and enjoyable experience for the people staying here, and to last for the longest time," says Sydney bon vivant and businessman John Howarth, who built his dream come true there to share with his wife, sophisticated couples, families and corporate groups.

Azure combines privacy, luxury and thoughtful touches: such as direct access from the street without steps, to be greeted by a floor-to-ceiling seascape visible from every corner of the tastefully furnished open plan main lifestyle area.

"We designed this house to become part of Australia's beach heritage - we built it to be here and still be outstanding in 50 years time. To win this national award against such strong competition is just wonderful."

The Marketing Director of TakeABreak.com.au., Penny Parsons, said the standards in this year's awards were very high "so we added a People's Choice category and asked the public to vote." said Penny Parsons, joint CEO of TakeABreak.com.au. People's Choice winners were decided by a public vote from each of the category State winners.

"With so many accommodation options to choose from, these awards allow us to showcase operators who provide exceptional product presentation, information and customer service," she said.

"Many of our accommodation operators are small and family businesses, so we keep the awards process simple by shortlisting based on feedback from guests who have actually stayed at the property. This encourages all operators to continually focus on what counts - the guest" Parsons concluded.

Azure is set among a private paradise of natural attractions - port of call for whales and seals, home of a magnificent stand of Australia's last littoral rain forest.

Until recently it was known only to the few: privileged anglers, surfers, yachties, naturalists, nature lovers and lucky families who stumbled upon it when exploring the 145km of coastline and the mosaic of inland waterways that make up the Great Lakes district based around the Wallis, Smiths and Myall Lakes.

"It's the kind of idyllic place people remember from their childhood. No high-rise - none of the development that has intruded further north. It is like stepping into another world, says John Howarth."

"It's the kind of place that you go to for a weekend and come away feeling you have been there forever. It stretches time and draws the stress out of you - it's that kind of place."
